Immersion Research (IR for short) are manufacturers of waterproof paddle clothing, hence the "immersion" in the company name. Originally founded in 1913 by two German immigrant brothers, Hans and Fritz Erlichmann, the company started life manufacturing steam driven cheese presses, an unlikely beginning for one of the world leaders in paddling gear. During World War I the company began manufacturing US government-issue paddling jackets for the troops abroad, and an industry was born. In 1997 two career kayakers started up the Immersion Research brand and began focusing entirely on paddle sport equipment and clothing.
IR produce a wide range of products for over 50 million paddlers across the globe. With a range of high quality cags, and a new dry suit range just launching, and they are currently developing the world's first environmentally sustainable "soy-based dry top"

"IR is proud of its long history with American Whitewater, and is excited to announce this year the creation of the 10 million dollar “Charlie Wallbridge Trust”. The Wallbridge Trust will set aside funding to help rodeo paddlers across the country get access to basic life skill training, with the goal of re-introducing them back into society."
